The Barbra Streisand Timeline was written and compiled by Allison Waldman, the author of The Barbra Streisand Scrapbook and Barbra Memories. Allison was a good friend who passed away in 2013 after a long battle with cancer. Barbra requests that her name is no longer affiliated with The Streisand Center for Conservancy Studies—her former Ramirez Canyon property.

JANUARY 22, 2000

Barbra appears on the cover of TV Guide.

JANUARY 23, 2000

Shirley MacLaine presents Barbra with the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award.

MARCH 8, 2000

Barbra first "Timeless" concert 'Down Under' in Sydney, is postponed due to rain.

MARCH 9-10, 2000

Barbra performs live in concert for the first time in Australia at the Sydney Football Stadium.

Barbra performs "Timeless" in Melbourne.

MAY 19, 2000

Barbra records a video message to Barbara Walters for a presentation at the Daytime Emmys.

MAY 30, 2000

"Reel Models: The First Women of Film" premieres on American Movie Classics. The Barwood documentary was produced by Barbra, telling the story of the pioneering women of the film industry. Barbra appears on camera to introduce the film.

JULY 19, 2000

The official announcement is made that Barbra will do four final concerts in America— two in LA and two in New York, bringing "Timeless" back to the the states.

JULY 30, 2000

The tickets go on sale for the four "Timeless" concerts.

AUGUST 14, 2000

Barbra goes to the Staples Center to watch the opening session of the Democratic National Convention

AUGUST 17, 2000

Barbra performs four songs from her "Timeless" to close the Democratic National Convention.

SEPTEMBER 5, 2000

"Barbra Streisand - The Directors" is released on VHS and DVD. It's her interview from the DGA.

SEPTEMBER 19, 2000

"Timeless" is released on CD.

SEPTEMBER 20 & 21, 2000

Barbra performs "Timeless" at the LA Staples Center.

SEPTEMBER 27 & 28, 2000

Barbra performs her the last two "Timeless" shows at Madison Square Garden in New York.

NOVEMBER 3, 2000

Barbra appears on "20/20" with Barbara Walters. Her aim was to make people vote for Al Gore. However, ABC cut her pro-democratic words— much to her displeasure.

NOVEMBER 5, 2000

Barbra calls a C-Span live Election Special to discuss her edited comments on "20/20" — and to talk about her support for Al Gore for president.

NOVEMBER 6, 2000

Rosie O'Donnell airs Barbra's political speech which "20/20" edited on "The Rosie Show."

Barbra is chosen to be the recipient of the 2001 AFI Award from the American Film Institute

FEBRUARY 14, 2001

Barbra's "Timeless" TV Special premieres on Fox.

FEBRUARY 20, 2001

The "Timeless" DVD is released.

FEBRUARY 22, 2001

Barbra is feted in Beverly Hills, receiving the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award.

APRIL 1, 2001

The Washington newspaper Roll Call prints a copy of Barbra's memo to Democrats urging them to challenge President George W. Bush's proposed legislation.

APRIL 3, 2001

"For Pete's Sake" is released on DVD for the first time.

APRIL 22, 2001

"Varian's War," a Barwood production starring William Hurt and co-executive produced by Barbra, premieres in America on Showtime.

MAY 12, 2001

"Reel Models: The First Women of Film" receives an Emmy nomination. When the Daytime Emmys are presented, the Barwood documentary wins in the category Outstanding Special Class Special.

JULY 1, 2001

Barbra begins recording sessions in LA for a new collection of Christmas songs.

AUGUST 1, 2001

The remastered version of "Funny Girl" is re-released in select theaters in America.

OCTOBER 9, 2001

Barbra's vocal of "Someday My Prince Will Come" is included in the special anniversary edition of Walt Disney's "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs."

OCTOBER 23, 2001

"Funny Girl" comes to DVD for the first time.

OCTOBER 30, 2001

Barbra's second Christmas Album titled "Christmas Memories" is released.

NOVEMBER 4, 2001

Barbra makes a surprise appearance at the Primetime Emmy Awards. The show had been postponed because of the 9/11 tragedy. Barbra closes the show with a inspirational rendition of "You'll Never Walk Alone." Backstage, Barbra poses with the Emmys she won that evening for the Fox broadcast of her TV special, "Timeless."

"The Prince of Tides" comes to DVD for the first time.

NOVEMBER 27, 2001

"The Owl and the Pussycat" is released on DVD for the first time.

JANUARY 29, 2002

A new CD, "The Essential Barbra Streisand" is released, a variation on a greatest hits collection. In addition, five of Barbra's albums are also re-released as remastered CDs—"People," "Funny Girl ST," "The Way We Were," "A Star is Born" and "The Broadway Album."

It's announced that Christie's New York will auction property belonging to Barbra Streisand.

Barbra and James Brolin attend the 54th Annual Directors Guild of America Awards Dinner.

MARCH 23, 2002

At the Academy Awards, Barbra presents Robert Redford with an honorary Oscar.

MARCH 27, 2002

After a prolonged illness, Barbra's mother, Diana Kind, passes away at the age of 93.

SEPTEMBER 29, 2002

Barbra is headliner at the National Democratic Gala fundraiser in Los Angeles. She performs a handful of songs, including a controversial parody of "The Way We Were."

NOVEMBER 26, 2002

"Duets," Barbra's 59th album is released. It includes famous duets she's sung with Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond and Donna Summer, as well as two new duets, one with Barry Manilow and another with Josh Groban.

DECEMBER 12, 2002

Radio Delilah interviews Barbra for the first time. They discuss her new "Duet" CD and Christmas. Three songs are also played - "Jingle Bells," "On Holy Ground," and "I Won't Be The One To Let Go."

"Christmas Memories" receives a Grammy nomination.

JANUARY 14, 2003

Barbra and James attend the premiere of Jim's new film, "A Guy Thing" in LA. Their appearance causes a media frenzy as the paparazzi gets their pictures on the red carpet.

MARCH 23, 2003

Barbra makes two appearances at the 75th Annual Academy Awards in LA. She presents the Oscar for Best Original Song to Eminem for "Lose Yourself" from "8 Mile," but he wasn't there to receive it. Barbra's second appearance is a class picture of Oscar winners and she's seated next to Meryl Streep.

MAY 2, 2003

Barbra participates on a BBC Radio 2 show called "The Michel Legrand Story," mostly talking about her collaboration with Michel on "Yentl."

JULY 1, 2003

DVD box set

"The Barbra Streisand Collection" is released onto DVD. The film set includes her movies "What's Up Doc," "Up the Sandbox," "The Main Event" and "Nuts." All have extras like Barbra's commentary, outtakes and trailers. The CD set of "Just For The Record" is re-released by Sony.

Barbra’s recipe for lemon pie is included in a "The Clinton Presidential Center Cookbook."

AUGUST 21, 2003

Streisand disguises herself after leaving clinic

Streisand’s management confirms that Barbra has undergone a minor plastic surgery, tightening of the jaw line.

SEPTEMBER 1, 2003

Newsweek publishes Barbra’s letter to the editor in their "Mail Call" section of the issue.

SEPTEMBER 10, 2003

Jim Brolin is cast as Ronald Reagan in the CBS mini-series, "The Reagans." Barbra visits Montreal, where the cast and crew are filming.

SEPTEMBER 23, 2003

The U.S. Humane Society and their Kindred Spirits program names Barbra Streisand's recording of "Smile," from her upcoming CD “The Movie Album,” as the “Official Anthem of Spirit for those who have experienced the loss of their pet.”

OCTOBER 5, 2003

At the New School of Social Research in New York City, Barbra films an interview with Robert Lipton for the Bravo series “Inside The Actor’s Studio.” They shoot five hours, but when broadcast it will be just two hours.

OCTOBER 14, 2003

“The Movie Album,” Barbra's 60th CD, is released. Barbra travels to Chicago to appear as Oprah’s guest on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” As part of her appearance, Barbra sings “Smile” (live to an audio track), in tribute to her late dog, Sammy. The one-hour interview is broadcast nationally; and additional hour called “Oprah After the Show” is broadcast on the Oxygen Network.

OCTOBER 22, 2003

Barbra responds to the fan reviews of “The Movie Album” which have been submitted and posted on her website – BarbraStreisand.com. She writes: “I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have so kindly sent in your reviews of ‘The Movie Album.’ I'm reading each of them in its entirety, not just the shortened version on the website, and I want to say very personally how humbled I am by the eloquence and graciousness of your response. They all touch me very deeply. I'm not in the habit of reading all of the media reviews, but your thoughts - the thoughts of the people I make records for - are very meaningful to me...thank you. Respectfully and with love, Barbra.”

Barbra attends a tribute to the late Gregory Peck at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. In addition to having been good friends, Barbra had dedicated “The Movie Album” to the star.

Julien's Auctions commences a sale of Streisand memorabilia sale of personal artifacts, costumes and collectibles on Ebay.

NOVEMBER 5, 2003

Barbra lends her recording of “I Believe/You’ll Never Walk Alone” to “It’s Still Okay To Dream,” a compilation CD to benefit the Save The Children charity.

NOVEMBER 8, 2003

Barbra’s recording of “Smile” is featured over the end credits for the Julia Roberts’ film, “Mona Lisa Smile.”

DECEMBER 5, 2003

Barbra is nominated for a Grammy award for "The Movie Album.” She is in the category “Traditional Pop Vocal.” It’s her 38th Grammy nomination, spanning her 40-plus year career.

JANUARY 15, 2004

Ben Stiller announces that his next film will be a sequel to “Meet The Parents,” tentatively called “Meet The Fockers.” Ben adds that his dream casting for the role of his mother is Barbra Streisand.

JANUARY 17, 2004

Ray Stark, producer of “Funny Girl,” “The Way We Were” and other Barbra films, dies in Los Angeles at the age of 88.

JANUARY 21, 2004

Capitol Record's “Funny Girl” Original Cast Album is inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

JANUARY 25, 2004

Barbra attends the Golden Globes with Jim, who is nominated for his performance in “The Reagans.”

JANUARY 27, 2004

Dustin Hoffman is signed to play Ben Stiller's dad in “Meet The Fockers.” Barbra is reportedly reading the script and thinking seriously of joining the production.

JANUARY 31, 2004

“Meet The Fockers” is listed in the “Films In Production” category of Daily Variety with Barbra Streisand playing Roz Focker.

FEBRUARY 9, 2004

Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) officially names the newly renovated, state-of-the art scoring stage as the "Barbra Streisand Scoring Stage," recognizing Barbra’s “unique contributions to both music and film.” Barbra attends the dedication with her husband, Jim, as well as good friends and collaborators, Marilyn and Alan Bergman, David Foster and Marvin Hamlisch.

Barbra and Jim go to Cabo San Lucas for John Travolta’s 50th birthday, a surprise party hosted by John’s wife, Kelly Preston. Although unplanned, when Dan Aykroyd invites her to the stage and hands her the microphone, Barbra sings a special, sexy, “Marilyn-to-JFK” version of “Happy Birthday” to Travolta.

Barbra receives the Human Rights Campaign’s 2004 Humanitarian Award at a ceremony in Los Angeles.

MARCH 21, 2004

Barbra's “Inside The Actor’s Studio” airs as a two-hour special on Bravo. In addition to sharing insights about her life and work, she also speaks with students about acting and directing. Host Robert Lipton introduces Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn, president of the Actor's Studio, to gives Barbra a certificate declaring that she has been named an official Member of the Actor’s Studio, something that had eluded her as a young actress.

The ratings for Barbra’s “Inside The Actor’s Studio” are the biggest audience ever for the Bravo series, over a million total viewers.

APRIL 16, 2004

"The Movie Album" is certified platinum by the RIAA, becoming Barbra’s 30th. This also marks her 49th gold album, more than any other female recording artist, and second only to Elvis Presley.

MAY 3, 2004

The Barbra Shop, a gallery and memorabilia shop devoted to Barbra Streisand, opens in Palm Springs, CA. It’s the creation of long-time fan Louis Papalas.

MAY 25, 2004

USA Today publishes the first official story about the filming of “Meet The Fockers,” including a portrait of the Byrnes and Focker families.

MAY 30, 2004

Universal Pictures launches the “Meet The Fockers” website.

JUNE 5, 2004

“Her Name Is Barbra,” the live online auction of Streisand collectibles and artifacts, gives thousands of fans a chance to participate simultaneously on the Internet. The event raises over a half million dollars for charities supported by the Streisand Foundation.

JUNE 22, 2004

Barbra is included in interviews about movie music for the TV special “AFI 100 Songs.” In addition, to appearing, four Streisand film songs make the top 100: #46: "Don't Rain on My Parade;" #16: "Evergreen;" #13: "People;" and #8: "The Way We Were."

JUNE 24, 2004

Streisand performs at a fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. She tells the USA Today, "I'm working for John Kerry because I believe this is the most important election of our lifetime. In a climate of national and economic insecurity, we are looking for a leader with the intellect and courage to set this country back on the right course." At the concert, Barbra sings “Smile,” “Come Rain or Come Shine,” “People,” and “I Believe.” With Neil Diamond, she also does “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers.”

The teaser for “Meet The Fockers” begins appearing on screens around America. It includes Barbra’s legendary vocal of “The Way We Were” over images from “Meet The Parents,” followed by a few scenes from the sequel.

The Ain’t It Cool website reports that focus groups are giving high marks to “Meet The Fockers.”

SEPTEMBER 19, 2004

Barbra and Jim attend the Emmys Awards, where he is nominated as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Mini-Series or Movie for his performance as Ronald Reagan in “The Reagans.”

SEPTEMBER 20, 2004

The day after coverage of the Emmy awards includes Barbra exclusive interview with “Extra.” The interview is conducted by the show's special correspondent Caleigh Peters, Barbra’s goddaughter.

Barbra and Jim endure the pouring rain to attend the dedication of the William Jefferson Clinton President Library in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Barbra participates with the other principals from “Meet The Fockers” in an all-day press junket to promote the film.

Barbra gives Caleigh the only solo interview she does for “Fockers” at the press junket. It airs on “Extra” and Barbra expresses her happiness about how the film has turned out.

On the broadcast of the Moving Image Museum tribute to John Travolta, Barbra appears via video with her own words about Travolta.

“All Night Long” released on DVD.

DECEMBER 16, 2004

Dick Guttman, Streisand's publicist, releases a statement regarding the rumors in the tabloid media about Barbra having cancer. "During a routine colonoscopy earlier this year, Barbra Streisand's doctor discovered a benign polyp. The removal of the single polyp was done earlier this month, and its benign nature was reaffirmed.”

DECEMBER 17, 2004

Allison stopped updating her timeline in 2004, so I have left it as-is. Miss Streisand's career since 2004, however, has continued: Barbra has starred in two more movies, presented two more concert tours, and released several albums since.
