Barbra-Archives.com FAQ
(Frequently Asked Questions)

Before contacting Matt about this site, here are some frequently asked questions that you may find helpful. Some people have emailed to tell me this FAQ is "negative" ... I am only trying to answer the most common emails that I receive — unfortunately, some of the answers have the word "no" in them.

• I was looking for a FAQ about Barbra herself. Is there one?

Yes, Mark Iskowitz put together a very informative Frequently Asked Questions page about Barbra Streisand many years ago. You can find it online here.

• Can you help me get in touch with Barbra Streisand?

No, sorry. Both me and this site have no affiliation with Ms. Streisand at all. The official address where you can write Ms. Streisand is:

Barbra Streisand
c/o Martin Erlichman Associates, Inc.
5670 Wilshire Boulevard, Suite 2400
Los Angeles, CA 90036

• I have a rare photo, magazine, or recording. May I contribute it to your site?

By all means, yes! Not only will I be happy, but all of the Barbra fans out there will be too. Especially if you have items or photographs from the early part of Barbra's career in the 1960s! I will always credit you on the page your contribution is used on. Just tell me how you want your name to appear (or not...). People have scanned and emailed me items. They have also snail-mailed hard copies to me, which I have returned. A few have even donated their collections to me. I appreciate it all ... and have, for the most part, eventually posted it all here on this site. (It may take me a while! But I eventually get it up!).

• Why do you disable right-clicking and/or watermark some of the photos of Barbra Streisand on your site? I want to copy some of them!

Why do I disable right-clicking? Three very simple reasons:

  • So people may not easily copy-and-paste my research and text onto their site. Please see my comments below regarding the text and information found here.
  • So that blogs and message boards cannot easily HOTLINK to photos on this site. This is also known as BANDWIDTH THEFT. I pay a web hosting company a fee to host my files. If you hotlink to them for FREE, it is analogous to plugging your computer into my electrical outlet. Please, bloggers, host your own photos!!
  • Several photographers have allowed me to use their copyrighted photos on my site. They are happy to let me use the photographs since I have disabled right-clicking, and in some instances, watermarked the photos.

• I'm writing about Barbra / Working on a Streisand project ... Can I use the text I find on your site?

Much of this website utilizes my own original text, which is copyrighted. Please list me as a source if you quote it somewhere.

Please do not copy, rewrite or redistribute this site's materials. You may freely link to any page on this website, but please do not link directly to image, video, or audio files. [i.e. Do not hotlink].

In the past, I have assisted video production companies, news stories, and photo researchers on Streisand projects. Please contact me directly for help (and please credit me!).

Conversely, if I have failed to credit your work (text or photograph) on this site, please contact me so I may properly credit you.

• Where can I chat online about Barbra Streisand?

Matt recommends Craig Hall's BarbraNews Yuku board, as well as the Streisand Yahoo group. Sorry, Barbra-Archives does not run a chat board, but Matt sometimes pops into the ones above.

• Please add me to your mailing list?

Sorry, I don't have one. Barbra-Archives did an email newsletter a while ago and found that it was just too much time to update both the site and also email breaking news to fans. So if you'd like to find out what's new, please simply bookmark www.barbra-archives.com and check the home page for the newest updates.

• What other Streisand web sites do you recommend?

There are quite a few! Certainly, Mark Iskowitz's BJS Music Guide has been around the longest. Also, there is Craig Hall's Barbra News. I also enjoy Saul's Barbra Timeless site. Otherwise, check the links page.

• I'm looking for a specific Streisand song; Can you email me an .mp3 of it?

Try iTunes — they carry most of Streisand's albums. Sorry, I don't email .mp3's to people.

• When will Yentl, The Concert (Anaheim), and Putting It Together: The Making of The Broadway Album finally come out on DVD?

Matt stays in touch with the respective video companies that will be producing these DVDs. As soon as he receives notice, he will make sure to post the news here or here.

• Can you send me a copy of a specific picture that is used on your site?

No, I'm sorry. I have gone to the trouble to scan, Photoshop and post many rare pictures on this site — sometimes with the cooperation of the original photographer or a fan who has the photo in his collection. Please just enjoy what you see ... I think I've shared enough, ya know?

• Will you sell me, send me, or burn me a CD with some of the rare stuff you have?

I don't sell any material because it's wrong to make money off of it. In the past I have traded with other fans. But at this point, most of the rare stuff seems to have circulated.

• Have you met Barbra and has she complimented you on this site?

No, I have not met Barbra, nor has she ever commented on Barbra-Archives.com. I have had the great privilege to interview, meet, and talk to some of her associates. And her management has always been respectful of what I do here.

• I have a magazine with Barbra on the cover that is not in your site's magazine section. Do you want me to scan it for you?

Here's the deal with the magazine section ... Except for a few special magazines and newspaper interviews, it's my opinion that Barbra stopped being open with the press in the 1980s—understandably! (We all know how Barbra feels about the truth and the stories that are printed about her). That's why my magazine section does not include many stories from the 1990s or 2000's.

Also, just because Barbra is on the cover does not mean that there is a substantial or even interesting story inside. If it's an editorial piece about Streisand's films or music, then I am usually not interested. [Prime example: The "After Dark" magazines ... great pictures, but absolutely no new information; just words about Streisand. Zzzzzzzzzz.]

Also, I do not post reviews. Mostly, I post first-person interviews with Streisand where she is talking to a reporter and she is directly quoted. So, thank you for volunteering to send me something—please don't be offended if I turn it down.
