The National Organization of Women's 1992 Elect Women for a Change projects helped double the number of women serving in Congress and sent an unprecedented number of feminists and people of racial and ethnic diversity to state capitals and Congress.

Mistress of Ceremonies Lily Tomlin introduced Barbra and a chorus of stars, including Goldie Hawn, Patti Austin, Dionne Warwick, and Cybill Shepherd. Together, they all sang a new song by Marvin Hamlisch with lyrics by Marilyn & Alan Bergman called "Common Threads"
