A fundraiser that contributed $1.5 million dollars to the Clinton/Gore ticket, Barbra's appearance was broadcast via closed-circuit television around the country. C-Span also carried footage.
Barbra sang On A Clear Day, Come Rain Or Come Shine, It's A New World, Children Will Listen, It Had to Be You (with election-tailored lyrics: "It Has to Be You"), Happy Days and God Bless America.
Barbra told the audience that night: "I'm proud to be a liberal, feminist, American artist." Then she sang God Bless America (which was released in 2001 as a bonus single with "Christmas Memories").

Excerpt from Time Magazine, Sept. 28, 1992:
BARBRA STREISAND PERFORMS live about as often as J.D. Salinger goes on a book tour. In the past six years, the world's most notoriously concert-shy crooner has served up live melody for the masses just twice: once in 1986 at a Democratic fund raiser, and again on Sept. 16 at a star-studded L.A. benefit for a man named Bill Clinton. "What motivates me this time is the possibility of George Bush and Dan Quayle being re-elected," she told the audience. Babs delivered It Had to Be You and four other favorites to a crowd of 1,000 and to the delirious delight of candidate Clinton. |
